Mobile Computing in the Virtual World

March 18, 2011

Mobile connectivity is nothing new. But mobile broadband and smart phones have made us much more productive as we can always be connected.

This has improved recently with the advent of 4G connectivity through most cellular vendors.

IT departments are able to offer more flexibility by being connected through virtual desktop computing and mobile computing now has the power to bring this flexibility out of the office. Smart phone and tablets now have the means to connect to remote desktops hosted in corporate data centers. These computing advancements offer more access to corporate data while decreasing the security plane.

VMware and Wyse have released add-on products to Android phones and Apple iPad tablets to access VMware virtual desktops. Other vendors such as Quest will soon offer clients for their virtual desktop products. Anytime/anywhere access is truly here.
